Environment
Mapping
Personal Note
The first paper I wrote at university. It was done in 2001 for the Computer Game Technology seminar.
Abstract
In this paper environment mapping is presented. First we will discuss environment mapping in general and the
methods of parameterization like, sphere -, cubic -and parabolic maps. For sphere, parabolic and cubics maps
the way of indexing is shown. Then ways of prefiltering of environment maps are shown. In detail we present
how this can be done with the Phong reflection model and how the Fresnel term can be used. In addition environment
mapping with the help of BRDF's is presented. Also environment mapped bump mapping (EMBM) will be discussed. In this
chapter we discuss mainly how the environment is mapped on an object with a structured surface. In the last chapter
an introduction into environment mapping with OpenGL is given.
